SEPTEMBER 19 is TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY! Sail on in and check out the treasure-trove of pirate-themed books on our display. Here is just a sampling:
- Djibouti by Elmore Leonard. In a modern-day pirate story, ambitious documentary filmmaker Dara Barr and her right-hand man, Xavier LeBo, a seventy-two-year-old African American seafarer, get more than they bargained for on the Horn of Africa.
- Pirate by Clive Cussler and Robin Burcell. An 800-year-old treasure. an ancient cypher wheel. a brutal murder. and a man who will stop at nothing to claim what he considers rightfully his. Husband-and-wife treasure-hunting team Sam and Remi Fargo have gone on impossible missions before and faced many perils, but never have they faced an adversary as determined as the one before them now. The battle will take them halfway around the world, and at its end will be either one of the most glorious finds in history–or certain death.
- Pirates!: The True and Remarkable Adventures of Minerva Sharpe and Nancy Kington, Female Pirates by Celia Rees. In 1722, after arriving with her brother at the family’s Jamaican plantation where she is to be married off, sixteen-year-old Nancy Kington escapes with her slave friend, Minerva Sharpe, and together they become pirates traveling the world in search of treasure. - Pirates Love Underpants by Claire Freedman ; illustrated by Ben Cort. A ship full of underpants-loving pirates goes on a quest for the fabled Pants of Gold. (This one should appeal to the younger adventurer, and can be found in our children’s room.)
- (Also in the children’s room, in non-fic.): Sea Queens: Women Pirates Around the World by Jane Yolen ; illustrated by Christine Joy Pratt. Brief biographies of women pirates from around the world.
DON’T FORGET:
It is still September, therefore it is still Library Card Sign-Up Month. You can still sign up for YOUR library card for access to online classes, audio books, ebooks, and other services right from home! Try out some of the options offered through the North Country Library System at www.ncls.org, or through our website. If you still have questions, please feel free to call us.

MORLEY BRANCH is open! Come see us (don’t forget your mask). Our hours are: Tuesday 1pm-3pm; Wednesday 4pm-6pm; Thursday 10am-12pm. Masks are required. There is a computer available for your use, but it’s a good idea to call first to check on availability. Scheduled appointments are encouraged, but not required. Call for more details: 315-379-0066.
Rensselaer Falls:
Rensselaer Falls Branch is open on Tuesdays from 11am – 5pm. Masks are required, and those who are under age 12 must be with an adult.
