Children’s Room Desk Aide

Duties:

  • Perform circulation tasks and assist patrons in finding materials.
  • Help patrons with computer and equipment usage.
  • Provide basic reference assistance and handle telephone inquiries.
  • Assist with craft projects and storytime projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of library policies and procedures.

Hours:

  • 3pm-6pm two to three days per week, with extra hours sometimes available for subbing.
  • The position can be either year-round or summer-only, depending on the successful applicant.

Rate of Pay:

  • $15-$16/hr depending on experience.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently enrolled).
  • Basic understanding of library operations.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use computers for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to attend relevant training sessions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous library experience preferred.

Circulation Desk Aide

Are you passionate about helping people connect? We’re seeking a friendly and dedicated Circulation Desk Aide to join our team.  Full- or part-time hours are available depending on candidate needs.

Duties:  

Assisting Patrons: Guide library patrons in locating materials, providing friendly assistance both in person and over the phone.

Circulation Tasks: Checking materials in and out using Polaris Leap, placing and filling holds, emptying the bookdrop, shelving, and issuing library cards.

Technology Support: Aid patrons in using public access computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines; troubleshoot basic computer and library software issues. 

Reference Assistance: Provide ready reference and reader’s advisory support, connecting patrons with the books & information they need.

Customer Service: Respond to phone inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Understanding of library services and aims; library experience preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a strong emphasis on customer service. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for computers and library software. 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently. 
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to perform accurate work. 
  • Physical capability to lift and push up to 50 pounds, and stand, sit, and use a computer for extended periods. 

Hours:

Tues-Fri 10am-6pm, Saturday 9:30am-3pm. Schedule may be flexible for those interested in taking only part of the hours.

Rate of Pay:

$16-$17/hr for weekday hours depending on experience; $20-$21.25/hr for Saturday hours.

SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with 3% company match and health insurance with 40% employee contribution for single subscriber are available. Employees who work 17.5 hours or more per week receive paid federal holidays and paid vacation; all employees receive paid sick days.
