Big Bear and Little Bear Go Fishing by Amy Hest
Some young friends were sharing fishing stories with me. They had recently learned to clean, filet, and cook up their catch, and it brought me back to my own childhood memories of fishing with my dad and learning the same skills. My friends were as enthusiastic as I was as a youngster, but the main thing for me, and for them, was the part about spending the day with a beloved parent. This was time well spent, and some very good memories were being made.
You don’t have to catch any fish at all to make good memories, and, these days, I prefer my fishing expeditions to follow the same pattern as Big Bear’s and Little Bear’s in this beautifully illustrated children’s book by Amy Hest.
Check it out for yourself.
Big Bear and Little Bear Go Fishing by Amy Hest; illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Erin Stead:
“Big Bear and Little Bear pull on baggy blue pants for fishing.
And boots. They stuff their feet into tall black boots.
Their coats are yellow with pockets and hoods.
Now they are ready for fishing.
Almost.” (from the Publisher)
