You can do it! The concept is simple, the rewards are endless! Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your little one starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think. Commit to the program and get started NOW!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Register here or by emailing Ms. Val at vwhite@ncls.org, calling 315-386-3712 ext 4, or in person in the Children’s Room at the Library. We’ll ask for the child’s name, child’s birthdate, adult’s phone and adult’s email.
HOW TO TRACK READING:
Download the app or reading logs from the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Website
OR
Pick up a folder at the library with paper reading logs
HOW TO CELEBRATE MILESTONES:
When you reach 100 books, 200 books, 300 books and so on, bring your reading log to the library. Your child will get a milestone sticker, and their name will be displayed on the Wall of Fame in the children’s room! For each milestone, we have a sign that your child can hold up if you’d like to take a photo of them celebrating, and after reading 1,000 books, they will get a book, a book bag, and a certificate!
